After a M.A. in Linguistics and one in Classical Philology, Duccio Guasti received his PhD at the University of Cincinnati in 2023 with a dissertation on Insults and Terms of Abuse in Homer. Most of his research consists of studies on ancient blame poetry (e.g. Hipponax, Phoenix Cercidas, skoptic epigrams), but he also published on various aspects of the ancient world, from monetary history to rhetorical theories. With his current project, financed through an FWO junior fellowship, he intends to shed light on the reality ancient insults through the study of ancient erudite lexicography, using Suetonius’ lexicon as a primary source.
